In a world where technology is rapidly reshaping how we teach and learn, it’s essential that education professionals feel confident using the tools available to them without getting lost in technical jargon. That’s exactly what the EdTech Toolkit is here to provide.
The SEND Toolkit is one of a growing series of education focused toolkits, offering direct, no-fluff guidance to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) through the power of technology. You’ll find ready-to-use prompts, ideas for inclusive lesson planning, accessibility adaptations, and creative ways to boost engagement and personalised learning.
This space has been created to give educators clear, practical, and accessible guides that help integrate technology meaningfully into everyday teaching. Whether you're just starting out or looking to expand your digital toolkit, these resources are designed with simplicity and impact in mind.
In today’s diverse classrooms, ensuring every pupil can access, engage with, and thrive in learning is not just a statutory requirement, it’s a moral imperative. For pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), access to tailored support can dramatically shift their educational journey from one of limitation to one of empowerment. This guide explores how iPads, devices already widely available in many schools, can be harnessed in practical, meaningful, and inclusive ways to enhance learning for pupils with a wide range of additional needs.

Alongside my day to day work with the Peterborough Keys Academies Trust I am also in the process of doing a research project around the transformative power of technology in education for SEND pupils. Empowering teaching and learning with technology is something that I focus on each day to ensure we can provide the best possible foundations for the next generation to excel on. Amongst this I have taken a keen focus around pupils with SEND as a area that can sometimes be overlooked when implementing new technologies into schools.
The research project will take a deep dive into the world of SEND education and the daily struggles that pupils can have engaging with learning in the classroom but also at home. The research will look at both new/emerging but also off the shelf technology and how a change of perception can truly empower the access to learning that all pupils can have.
To support with this research project I am looking for a range of case studies and real-life insights on how technology is being used in SEND education covering both highly bespoke and off the shelf technology. I am also looking to have a range of discussions with SEND specialists around barriers to learning, barriers to staff upskilling and insights into how they have used technology to unlock key experiences for their learners.
If this is something that you would be willing to support with or are able to share key case studies/insights from your work, please email research@jordansmithson.com
